Actually when 2 dogs are at each others neck, don;t really think it is advisable nor safe to go and pull them apart using your hands/legs. U might end up getting bitten by them instead. Just like 2 people in heated arguements, the anger just pop up to the head, lose the ability to think and act properly thus resulting in fights. The same goes to our furkids too.
Personally, I had encounter such problems b4 and has tried out few methods which i find that the water splash is most effective. Sometimes when dogs fight, it can be very sudden for us to react. The 1st time when it happens, I was stunned... I was yelling at the top of my voice trying to break them up. Too scare to go up to them too. Sure feel damn silly after that as the dogs totally ignored my existance. These mongrels dogs are staying around my workshop but are also familiar with me as i often bring them food. Mostly fought over terriority trepassing, female dogs on heat and over food.
Remember my hubby using a pc of wood hitting hard on the legs of one of the "tough fighter" trying to break up his fight on another mongrel that is so much smaller in size for tacking his gf. He got the small dog by the neck refusing to let go. Blood oozing out fast and the poor dog was grasping hard but powerless to retailiate. Despite the hard beating, the "fighter" never loose his grip on the neck nor cried out in pain. Instead the grip is tighten more at the neck!!! Only when i rush to get water to throw on them, the "fighter" drop the dog and make his escape.
These mongrel dogs does not belongs to me but just be reminded that even if the fighting dogs belongs to u, gotta be careful while trying to break up their fights. Isn't there a saying of bullets got no eyes to see??? Guess a bite at heated times got none to see either....LOL>>>
